HUDWAY Drive Power Supply

HUDWAY Drive is powered from the vehicle onboard power system. The device can be connected to the cigarette lighter socket (12V outlet) or to the USB port. The preferred connection option is a 12V outlet with the power adapter that goes in the box by default. When connecting to the USB port, incorrect operation is possible due to conflicts with the multimedia system.

The algorithm of power supply to the cigarette lighter socket may vary on different car models. Most often it depends on the ignition mode (key or button), as well as if a car features the keyless entry system.

Classic ignition key

The classic car ignition switch typically has 4 positions:
LOCK - the steering wheel is locked to prevent theft;
ACC - steering wheel is unlocked and auxiliary electrical equipment is connected;
ON - operation of the main electrical circuits;
START - the starter is activated to start the engine.

Electrical circuits in most cars are designed so that power to the cigarette lighter jack is supplied when you turn the key to the ON position. Therefore, the HUDWAY Drive will turn on at that moment.

After the trip, the HUDWAY Drive should turn off automatically when the vehicle engine is turned off, as soon as the key is no longer in the ON position.

The HUDWAY Drive should not come back on automatically after the trip is over and the ignition is turned off.

START/STOP button and keyless entry

Vehicles equipped with a START/STOP button to start the engine do not have classic ignition key operation modes. That is why, the operation of the cigarette lighter socket (12V outlet) work according to other algorithms.

Most often the activation of the cigarette lighter socket (12V outlet) occurs when the central lock or the car door is unlocked. Thus, HUDWAY Drive can be activated before the engine is started.

HUDWAY Drive switch-off is not always associated with the end of engine operation. Normally, the onboard systems, including the cigarette lighter socket (12V outlet), are turned off within 10 minutes after the central lock/door is closed, or within 30 minutes if the vehicle does not move but the central lock is not closed.

If you have a car with keyless entry and/or START/STOP button, please make sure that the cigarette lighter socket (12V outlet) is turned off during above described circumstances. If HUDWAY Drive keeps getting power even when the vehicle is not in use, we recommend that you unplug the HUDWAY Drive power adapter from the on-board power supply after each trip.

If the vehicle is equipped with a non-standard anti-theft system or multimedia system, there may be abnormal operation of the electrical system. In this case you should make sure that the HUDWAY Drive is switched off when the vehicle is not in use.
